EXCELLENCE A DECADE IN THE MAKING.
It is with great pleasure that we announce this year’s results from the prestigious Wine Mag 10-Year-Old Wine Report which has awarded the Nederburg Auction Reserve Private Bin R163 Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 an outstanding rating of 94 points!
A true masterpiece ten years in the making, this wine has been crafted from the finest grapes in the Paarl vineyards and matured for 29 months in all-new French oak barrels. Its nose offers a delightful medley of red and black berries, potpourri, vanilla, and an essence of oak spice. On the palate it is a symphony of dense fruit, vibrant acidity, and tightly packed, grippy tannins— delivering an incredible structured taste and aroma.
Crafted for perfect, long-term maturation in your private collection, this Cabernet Sauvignon has plenty of time to evolve and impress.
VINEYARDS:
With grapes carefully sourced in the fertile Paarl valley vineyards, from vines grown in red / yellow Tukulu / Clovelly soils, the Nederburg Auction Reserve Private Bin R163 Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 was the product of small-berried, loose bunches picked at a suitable level of phenolic ripeness. While Cabernet bunches tend to be fairly compact, the prevailing microclimatic conditions were conducive to looser bunch formation, making for even more ripening.
WINEMAKING:
In order to produce a wine destined for excellence, the grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness and each block individually vinified. At the cellar, the fruit was crushed and sorted into a combination of roto tanks, foudre and small open-top fermenters, adding to the complexity of the wine by allowing for various levels of flavour extraction. Cold maceration was done for three days at 10oC with one cap rotation per day. The juice was inoculated and fermented at 24o to 27oC. Regular mixing of the juice and skins happened daily to achieve the best colour and tannin structure. After fermentation, the wine was drained from the skins and then racked into barrels where it underwent malolactic fermentation. Finally, the wine was matured in a selection of new French oak barrels for a period of 29 months before blending and bottling.
